Timemaps - New Interactive maps of key moments in Human History LGfL offers new approach to interacting with historical events through an online map interface
LGfL are delighted to launch ‘Timemaps’ for all LGfL connected Secondary schools. These unique interactive map resources show history in ways not previously seen.
Choose from 9 interactive maps covering the following historical events:
The aim of the TimeMaps is to "communicate history in a truly engaging way". To do this, Timemaps use a combination of timelines, maps, and encyclopedia entries merged together to create both authoritative content and an enjoyable user experience. The result is a unique interactive guide through history, stopping at each and every civilization, empire and country along the way.
Why use the maps? Maps are the ideal starting point for historical enquiries. Without understanding the location of a civilization or state, within the axis of time and space, there can be no historical understanding of an episode. To study Ancient Egypt, for example, in isolation, not knowing whether it comes before or after the Ancient Greeks or the Ancient Romans, is on a par with studying myths and legends. What students need, if they are to understand its past - is an overview, a chronological framework, in which detailed knowledge can be slotted. The TimeMaps seek to provide both the overview and the detail, so that the latter is served up within its full context.
TimeMaps materials are designed to support teachers. Great care has been taken to ensure that Timemaps are of the highest quality, based on sound academic research.
